Year 6

In Year 6, pupils continue to deepen their understanding of music through a diverse and engaging curriculum that covers three main areas across the terms:

1. Advanced Rhythms and Syncopation (Autumn Term)

Pupils master complex rhythmic patterns and explore the use of syncopation, performing these rhythms using classroom instruments to develop precision and coordination.

2. Melody and Counterpoint (Spring Term)

Students investigate how multiple melodies interact through the study of counterpoint. They compose and perform pieces that weave together different melodic lines, fostering creativity and an appreciation of musical complexity.

3. Music Technology and Film Scores (Summer Term)

The curriculum introduces pupils to the role of technology in music production, with a focus on creating and performing film scores. Using digital tools, they experiment with soundscapes and develop original compositions to accompany visual media, enhancing their technological and compositional skills.

Below you’ll find the Medium Term Plans for each of these terms, detailing the key learning objectives, activities, and outcomes for pupils across the academic year.
